MEME

It's occurred to me that I may confuse some people who I don't get to chat to very often (or at all, in some cases) or read this blog on a semi-regular basis. So here's the basic info for a first-time reader.

You should also know when you read the blog, generally I'm also "writing for an audience", things that I know (or believe) the people I am aware are reading it may find amusing or interesting. If said people are finding it boring as hell, then I'm in trouble.

Smurfette, or Smurfy (that's me!), is an unemployed (unfortunately) female 21-year-old living in a rural tourist town on the beach in Victoria, Australia.

BtVS comes up a lot in my posts, given that the main people who read this are also fans of the show. The name "Smurfette" comes from that fandom.

I get involved in fandoms a lot, although I try to be ultra-involved in only one at a time. I'm on the outskirts of BtVS now as I'm rather bitter about the shows and no longer watch the new episodes, although I'm not averse to parodying them, complaining about them or just generally snarking. I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper, and nothing can change that. Not even death, even if Dork!Angel's trying his hardest

I live with my parents and my two younger brothers, whom I refer to as N and H. N is 18 years old, and has just completed his VCE -- the Victorian Certificate of Education. H is 15 and, despite not being "obsessed" with BtVS watches my DVDs more than I do. I also had to buy him with Once More, With Feeling soundtrack (the musical episode, for the uninitiated) in order to get my own copy back.

I'm a Virgo, but I'm really, really, really, really messy. I redefine mess. Although I don't smell funky.

My date of birth is the 21st September 1981.

I have an elderly eccentric (senile) dog called Bonnie -- she's a Pomeranian and around 14 or so -- and a spoiled-rotten indoors-only cat named Jasper. Jasper's a Tonkonese, a breed created from cross-breeding Siamese and Burmese and I love him dearly.

My own computer doesn't like to hold an internet connection, and I'm on a dial-up modem, so it got expensive in terms of phone calls. As a result, I use my parents computer for my internet use; however, I use the computer in my bedroom for building websites, using Paint Shop Pro and typing up blog entries, email etc.

I only just got PSP for Christmas and I'm still learning how to use it.

I sometimes act older than my age (wise beyond her years?) but I'm also very immature. I love cartoons, my computer desk is covered with stuffed animals (particularly Winnie-the-Pooh, elephants, dragons and teddy bears), I sleep with a teddy bear at night due to lack of a warm body and I have a Sylvester (as in Sylvester and Tweetie Bird cartoon characters) bedspread. I drink coffee out of a massive Eeyore mug.

I'm addicted to caffeine. I take my coffee strong, white, two sugars... coffee is never too strong, although I may slip a few extra teaspoons of sugar in to counter the bitterness. I love lattes, and the people at the coffee shop I frequent the most know what I'm having before I say. Sometimes there are benefits to living in the country.

My mother refers to me as a "yuppie" because I don't like instant coffee.

I'm overweight, but I'm also lazy. I don't eat chocolate very often, but when I do it will be a block in the one sitting. I love my Tim Tams but don't buy them very often (read: I don't buy them any more often than every three months or so) for the same reason.

I have brown hair (long) and blue eyes. I consider my hair to be short when it's shoulder-length. I don't ever do much with it, not even blow-drying, except pulling it back into a pony-tail, putting in a hair-band or putting it into two plaits. I have two long pieces of cotton-covered elastic from MIMCO, a small accessories company I love, held together with a toggle at the ends which I often wear in my hair, and that's pretty much the extent of my creativeness there.

I'm a left-wing liberal, leaning towards the radical side, and very opinionated. Deal.

I'll refer to RAWA on a semi-regular basis. RAWA is the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. I recommend you visit their website.

I'm a member of Greenpeace.

I'm a Christian, although I don't really attend worship. My father's a minister in the Uniting Church of Australia, and if anyone ever mentions 7th Heaven in my hearing they'll be shot, even if I think that there should be far more gun control in the world. I can't understand America's lax gun laws, and the NRA and the power it wields is incomprehensible to me.

I suffer from clinical depression. I often use this blog to cheer myself up and force myself out of said depression, but on occasions I'll have what I call a "self-indulgent" post. Please don't worry when this happens... my depression is always in the background, but sometimes I can't help but let it into the fore.

I dislike large gatherings of people when I have to be social, even more so when I don't know the people in question. I'm not good at networking, and I have low self-esteem.

I aim to be a librarian, when I get over my psychological issues with returning to university and actually get the qualifications. I spent one semester at university, but left due to one of my first sever bouts of depression. I love history, literature and sociology, and my academic nature reflects in a lot of my life.

I love books. I usually read the intellectual kind, the ones you find in the "literature" section of the bookstore, but I'll occasionally pick up a piece of trash I don't have to think with. I spend way too much money at Borders.

I'll read history text-books for fun, and I'm obsessed with revolutionaries. I have dozens of books on Joan of Arc and Dr Martin Luther King, jr. I study the Holocaust all the time, trying to make sense of the inconceivable. I take world issues to heart, which my doctor says is something that may contribute to my depression, although it's something I can't stop doing.

I have a eclectic music taste, from pure pop to very alternative. I love music with a message, like Midnight Oil or Ani DiFranco or my beloved 1960s stuff, but then I'll put on Sarah McLachlan and be in bliss. I'll listen to almost anything, although, on the whole, I'm not too fond of dance music or techno. I love the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkle, Tori Amos, Midnight Oil, Sarah McLachlan, Ben Folds Five, silverchair, george, Something for Kate, Waikiki, Robbie Williams, Pearl Jam, Ani DiFranco, Beth Orton, Live, Eva Cassidy, Alex Lloyd, Alicia Keys, Ben Harper, Augie March, Michelle Branch, Jeff Buckley and the list goes on.

I'm a Trekkie and a massive Star Wars fan. You should also know there's a Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fan in da house. I love LotR slash, particularly Aragorn/Boromir, although I've never really gotten into fanfiction in any of these fandoms apart from Trek.

I love Indian films, documentaries, dramas, romantic-comedies... but they all have to have a certain vein. I can't really describe my film tastes.

I don't watch too many TV shows religiously, but I will watch the TV. I love SBS and the ABC. I've become a fan of Law and Order of late. Again, I'm eclectic in taste.

I love British comedy.

The whole "spoonless" and "there is no spoon" thing isn't only referring to The Matrix. It's also a Buffy thing.

I don't have a license and I don't own a car.

I can't think of anything else to say about myself.
